About Me

Julie Song is a writer, professor, and keen observer of life’s emotional undercurrents. Her work explores themes of identity, memory, cultural inheritance, and the quiet complexities of relationships—both the ones we’re born into and the ones we choose. Born and raised in Southern California to Korean immigrant parents, Julie draws from her personal history to craft essays and stories that are intimate, layered, and unapologetically honest.

She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and teaches at the college level, where she encourages students to question the structures that shape our lives and to find power in their own voices. Her writing, both fiction and creative nonfiction, blends academic insight with lyrical storytelling, examining the intersection of family, gender, race, and the search for self.

Julie lives in the Los Angeles area with her husband and son, and spends her time writing, teaching, and chasing moments of stillness in a world that rarely slows down.
